In a world of uncertainty and chaos we can easily become distracted with things that should not be our concern. But, because there are entities that are set into motion that we might not be aware of, things that are used to keep us off task, we tend to insert ourselves into other people’s lives that we have no reason to be involved with. Have you ever found yourself reading an article and then start reading the comments? That alone can pull you away and distract you for quite some time if we are not careful. We find ourselves disagreeing with complete strangers and are carried away by our emotions time and time again. We get so caught up in people’s hate, and we too can display ourselves in ways that we didn’t realize we had. Scripture tells us to set our minds on things above and not earthly things. Therefore, be careful as to what you allow yourself to entertain. Any and everything that is set into motion to delay where we should be and what we should be doing are called destiny devours and delays. When something or someone just mysteriously begins to get you off the task at hand, take a look at why and then get back on track. Take for instance the story in the bible found in the book of Nehemiah, when Tobiah and Sanballat began to ridicule and harass Nehemiah for attempting to rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. His people had been in captivity for 70 years and his city was in ruins. Nehemiah had the burden to pray and when he did, he realized that God wanted him to rebuild the walls. Had Nehemiah listened to the naysayers about the assignment, he may have not completed what he had been entrusted to do. Sanballat and Tobiah would attempt to distract him as much as they could because they didn’t want him to finish the work. Sometimes when you think people are for you, they are actually secret haters. Nehemiah refused to be distracted and just continued to work sending them messages, telling them, “I am too busy to come down, I have a work to do.” What assignment have you began and have not finished it because of distractions? Have you started school in the past but never got around to getting that degree? What have you inserted yourself in that has nothing to do with you? Have you allowed your emotions to sidetrack you because someone discouraged you? Get back on track and finish what you have started. Because Nehemiah refused to come down from the wall, it only took him 52 days to complete. I want to encourage you to get back on track and rewrite your story. As long as you are still breathing you have a work to do.
